Freecycle sucks!

At least in this city it does.

The emails come sporadically, at best. I have posted to offer things, and my posts are approved days after I post them, if at all.

Example: On Sept. 21st I posted offering a bench. After the bench was picked up I posted that it had been taken. The post still hasn’t gone through and I am still getting emails about it. I posted it again, on the 23rd in case the first one didn’t make it and the second one hasn’t been approved.

On the 23rd I posted offering a lawnmower and weedeater. The post still hasn’t been approved.

But yet some whacknut can post 3 times in 6 days asking for a crib and it is approved. WTF??

On the 24th I sent an email to the group owner, thanking them for taking on such a HUGE task, and offering to help moderate the group. I haven’t heard back. (I know it has only been one day, so I am still waiting. The last time I emailed the group owner I never heard back, so I'm not holding my breath.)

If you go back through the posts you can see the date they were sent, and the actual date they were sent through. Sometimes there is a gap of a week or more... but other posts are put through, that are sent later.

I know it isn't just me that is pissed, because a post slipped through that was supposed to be just for the group owner, saying "Will you finally post this "Picked up" notice?! I am tired of getting emails about this because you can't be bothered to approve the messages!"

I am so done with this group. I am going to just start taking stuff to Goodwill.

Edited to add: They don't suck anymore. I had emailed the person in charge of my state and she is going to join the group and see what's going on. Viva la Freecycle!

Are you sure that person posting often and getting "approved" is actually on the unmoderated list? Freecycle doesn't allow the group to be fully moderated.

As for being rejected, show us your titles, maybe they were not correct, we get lots on ours that are okay for offered posts, but then the format is total rubbish for taken. (But for TAKEN I will edit the title instead of send a reject message to get the status updated quicker).

Freecycle does suck, if you live in an area with stupid stupid people. Which is most sadly.

DO THEY MODERATE ONLY US ONES THAT SPEAK UP AND POINT OUT THEIR WRONGS? I FEEL LIKE IT'S BIG BROTHER OR I AM IN LIVING IN A COMMUNIST "FREECYCLE" STATE.
I WISH SOMEONE STARTED A SITE BETTER THAN FREECYCLE! THE MODERATORS I DEAL WITH, WELL SOME OF THEM, ARE RUDE AND IGNORANT.
SAD. MAYBE THEY SHOULD HAVE BEEN "REAL POLICE" AND NOT MESSAGE BOARD POLICE..

If you try and post a message directly to the "board", that is a complaint, of course it won't be posted. The board is reserved for posts. And considering you posted here in FULL CAPITAL LETTERS, I am not surprised. Granted, you should get some response, try messaging on the group owner email and a message will be sent to all the moderators, instead of put in the big queue of (usually) rubbish and crappy formatted messages.

If you'd like a more user friendly experience than using freecycle's mailing list approach, try out http://freebootr.com Freebootr It's a google map mashup, free listing website. Large, easy to read map, upload photos, awesome search, and completely free. check it out

I agree with the person who stated that they were afraid to voice their opinion or ask questions. I have been "banned" from Freecycle for spotting quite a few discrepancies when a new owner took over, and I wasn't afraid to point them out. At the time, I was a moderator, so I felt that I could be straight-forward. Not the case. The site is turning into a popularity contest, and the GOA in our state won't do anything. I receive unwarranted, harrassing emails from the owner STILL, and haven't belinged to the site in a long time. Nothing is being done. I feel terrible, like someone else said: MAYBE THEY SHOULD HAVE BEEN "REAL POLICE" AND NOT MESSAGE BOARD POLICE..'
On another note, chin up! There are other free-sites in most communities. Type "yahoogroups" into your browser and see what you can find. Or start your own. Lots of people are tired of all the rules and drama of Freecycle, and would love to join something simpler. Also, for a chuckle, go to youtube and type in Freecycle. Watch the video.
Have a great day! Why let the BS get to you?

I dislike the Freecycle in my city area (King County, WA). The lady who is the moderator is an extreme bitch if I may say.

I once post asking for some women supplies for a struggling lady and Tammy said be realistic and that no one will be offering that. She was wrong.

I just wish that Tammy lady moderating the King County Freecycle would get a life and spend more time with her kids instead of on the freakin computer.

I've had the same issue with Caldwell group - have asked multiple times and been declined with no explanation. I just moved up here from another state and have all this extra stuff I know somebody in need could use. Personally I think the moderator should be ousted. I wonder who it is and what their problem is? Note South park episode TMI.
